Galesburg, IL – The steady play of a women’s basketball player has earned her the latest Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.

Senior Krystyna Williams (Evanston, IL, Evanston Township) played a vital role in the Fire’s 102-82 Midwest Conference victory last Friday at Beloit College.  The 102 point total was a season high for Knox, which leads the league in scoring at 79.2 points per game, free throws made (278), and free throw attempts (431).

The Prairie Fire is getting more comfortable with the new offensive system employed this season.  The squad is averaging 89 points over the last five games.

Williams has also adjusted well.

She scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the win over the Buccaneers for her third double-double of the season.  Williams connected on 6-of-10 shots, including a 3-pointer, made both of her free throw attempts, and had two steals against the Beloit.  Williams followed with 12 points and five rebounds in a loss on Saturday at conference leader St. Norbert College, which is unbeaten in league play.

Williams averaged 13.5 points and eight rebounds while shooting 52.4 percent from the floor and 4-for-4 from the foul line in the Fire’s two games in Wisconsin.  She’s averaging team-highs of 11.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game and shooting 48.4 percent from the field.

Williams ranks in the top 10 in the Midwest Conference in offensive rebounding (#3), rebounding (#5), points per game (#9), and field goal percentage (#9).

Williams and the Prairie Fire play back-to-back Midwest Conference home games against Lawrence University on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and Beloit College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.  Knox looks to gain a split against the Vikings (1-12, 1-7 MWC) and sweep the Buccaneers (4-9, 1-7 MWC).

Coach Emily Cline’s team will then go out on the road for four games.  Knox travels to Illinois College, Grinnell College, Carroll University, and Ripon College between January 28 and February 4.

Only two more home games remain after this week.  The Fire takes on Illinois College on February 8 before closing out the regular season against rival Monmouth College on February 18, which is also Senior and Parents Night.
