Galesburg, IL – A standout defensive player for the Prairie Fire football team has earned two more postseason honors following another outstanding year on the gridiron.
Senior Mike Hendrick (Smithton, IL, Freeburg) has been named to the D3football.com 2012 All-West Region Team Third Team Defense and Beyond Sports Network’s 2012 Honorable Mention All-American Team at linebacker.
Hendrick was selected last month as a member of the 2012 All-Midwest Conference First Team as a linebacker after leading the league in tackles with 133, the third-most in the country, and 13.3 tackles per game.
Hendrick was a D3football.com All-West Region Team Second Team Defense pick after the 2011 season. He was also a member of D3football.com’s 2012 preseason Second Team All-American squad as a linebacker.
In addition, Hendrick was named to the 2011 All-Midwest Conference First Team Defense and the 2011 BSN All-American Second Team Defense. He led the nation with 157 tackles and 15.7 tackles per game in 2011, earning an NCAA statistical champion plaque.
Hendrick garnered 2012 preseason All-American first team defense honors from BSN and USA Football News as well.
Hendrick and some of the other top seniors in NCAA Division III are in Salem, Virginia preparing for the D-3 Senior Classic. The game will be played on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Salem Stadium, the site of the annual Stagg Bowl.
