Galesburg, IL – A men’s tennis player that is unbeaten after the Prairie Fire’s first two matches of the season is the latest award winner from the athletic department.
Junior David Ham (Lakewood, WA, Shadow Ridge) won both of his #5 singles matches and teamed up with first-year player Jonathan Ng to post a pair of victories at #3 doubles against Edgewood College (WI) and the University of Dubuque on February 4 in Dubuque, Iowa.
Ham’s perfect day helped Knox earn a season-opening split -- a 9-0 win against Edgewood and a 6-3 loss to highly touted Dubuque, earning him the Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award.
Ham beat Edwin Mendoza of Edgewood 6-1, 6-1 in singles play. He and Ng downed Mendoza and Eric Gavinski 8-1 in their doubles match to help lead the Prairie Fire to a victory to kick off the season.
Ham added two more wins against Dubuque by defeating Michael Braden 6-1, 6-1 in their singles showdown and, along with Ng, toppled Braden and Shawn Iben 8-1 in doubles play.
Ham was 4-0 on the day, allowing only four match points in the four singles sets he played, and just six total points when including the two doubles matches.
The Prairie Fire participates in the Principia College Tournament on February 10 and 11 in Elsah, Illinois.
