Jacksonville, IL – The Prairie Fire and one of its first-year players had a day to remember in a 7-1 victory on Wednesday against MacMurray College.

The Prairie Fire (3-3-1) emphatically ended a three-match winless streak as Charlie Harned (Webster Groves, MO, Clayton) scored four goals -- the first of the match at the 22:00 mark assisted by senior Max Gatyas (Plymouth, WI, Plymouth ) -- and three more after the intermission.  The four individual goals in a match are among the most in Knox men's soccer history.

The Fire, with the win against the Highlanders (3-4), also took home the traveling Ferris Trophy, an annual competition between the two schools’ soccer teams that began with Wednesday’s contests.  The trophy recognizes the connections Galesburg and Jacksonville have to the Ferris Wheel and inventor George Ferris.

Knox extended a one-goal lead to 2-0 when first-year Hadee Ahmadi (Denver, CO, Martin Luther King Jr.) scored just before the break.

Harned added his fourth, fifth, and sixth goals of the season in the 47th, 51st, and 87th minutes of the match, respectively.  Also scoring for the Prairie Fire was first-year Nathaniel Logie (Trinidad and Tobago, Queens Royal College), who found the back of the net on an assist by Harned in the 53rd minute.

Knox added a tally on an own goal late in the match.

MacMurray College’s only score was at the 50:00 mark.

The Prairie Fire outshot the hosts 18-7 overall and 14-3 on goal.  First-year goal keeper Sean McGovern (Chicago, IL, Niles Notre Dame) had two saves and earned his third win of the season.

The Knox men's soccer squad returns home for a Midwest Conference match against Monmouth College on September 22.  The contest against the Fighting Scots begins at 1:00 p.m.
