Galesburg, IL – A senior football player has won his second award in two days for his outstanding performance in the first game of the season.

Mike Schroeder (Glenview, IL, Glenbrook South) is the first Prairie Fire Performer of the Week recipient of the 2012-2013 athletic year.  He was named on September 4 the Midwest Conference Special Teams Performer of the Week for his 225 kickoff return yards on August 31 against Eureka College.

The kick return yardage by Schroeder, which included a 79-yard touchdown late in the first half, set a new school record.  The previous all-time high was 149 yards by Dan Kizior against IC during the 2009 season.  Schroeder also set a second new Knox football record with his nine kickoff returns in the game against the Red Devils.

Schroeder had a total of 232 all-purpose yards, which ties him for sixth all-time.  In addition, he made two big tackles on special teams that resulted in Eureka starting drives inside their own 20 yard line.

The Prairie Fire opens Midwest Conference play on September 8 at St. Norbert College at 1:00 p.m.  The game will be videostreamed live at http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/snc.portal#
