Monmouth, IL – Two Prairie Fire indoor track records fell at the Midwest Invitational hosted on Saturday by Monmouth College.

Senior runners Joe Puntoriero (Cheektowaga, NY, Cleveland Hill) and Sean Choate (Chicago, IL, Chicago Academy) each broke school records that stood for longer than a decade during the unscored meet.

Puntoriero has seven of the top 10 fastest-times in school history in the 200 meter dash.  After missing the school record in the event by one-hundredth of a second in the season-opening Knox Invitational on January 12, he broke it on Saturday.

Puntoriero finished the 200 meters in second place with a time of :22.77, which topped the previous school record of :22.87 held since 1999 by Scott McCarty.

Puntoriero also ran the 60 meter dash in :07.18.  He finished the race in second place and his time is #2 in school history behind the record time of :07.16 he set last weekend.

Choate shattered his previous fastest time of 16:12.82 in the 5000 meters.  He placed second in the meet with a new career-best 15:29.06, which broke the previous school record of 15:32.72 set by Joe Simpson in 1988.

The Prairie Fire men’s and women’s teams combined to establish six more new all-time top 10 indoor track and field marks.

Puntoriero, besides his :07.18 in the 60 meter dash, also recorded a time of :07.27 in the event  for the fourth-fastest time. First-year Alan Lee (St. Louis, MO, St. Mary's) ran the 60 meters in :08.11, which ranks #10 in school history.

Seniors Paul Lebryk (Glenview, IL, Glenbrook South) and Dan Johnson (Chicago, IL, Luther South) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the weight throw.  Lebryk’s throw of 43’ 9 ¾” moved him up to #6 on the all-time individual list while Johnson recorded a distance of 43’ 8 ½” for #7 all-time by an individual in the event.

Two first-year women's runners added their names to the record books in the mile.  Lizzy Reyes (Oak Park, IL, Oak Park-River Forest) crossed the finish line in 6:08.63, which ranks #7 on the all-time individual list.  Grace Neubauer (Inverness, IL, William Fremd) finished the race in 6:11.96 and now owns the #9 fastest time on the individual list.

The Prairie Fire also had a pair of top five finishes at the meet.

Senior Lizzy Warner (Champaign, IL, University Laboratory) placed fifth in the 800 meter run in 2:35.39 and junior Weston Chenoweth (Canton, IL, Canton) was fourth in the shot put with his throw of 44’ 9”.

The Knox indoor track and field teams travel to Bloomington to take part in the Titan Open hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University on January 26.  The 2013 season schedule is available here.
