Galesburg, IL – A Prairie Fire women's swimmer has been recognized by the Midwest Conference following her outstanding performance in the team's season-opening meet.

First-year Madeline Bruce (Dunlap, IL, Dunlap) won three individual events, setting new pool records in two of them, and was part of the winning 200 yard medley relay team in an 88-20 Knox victory against Eureka College at Lay Natatorium on November 2.

Bruce is the recipient of the Midwest Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week award.

In her college debut, Bruce placed first in the 100 yard butterfly, the 100 yard freestyle, and the 200 yard IM.  Her time of 1:00.99 in the 100 fly broke the previous pool record 1:01.86 by Shasta Roche of Knox in 1996 while she finished the 200 IM in 2:21.32 to take down the old record of 2:21.95 set in 2000.

While the season is still young and not all Midwest Conference teams have competed yet, Bruce currently has the fastest times in the conference in the 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly, and the 200 IM.

Bruce and her teammates go up against three other schools in the Illinois College Invitational on Saturday, November 9.  Along with Knox and IC, Millikin University and Principia College (IL) will be competing in the event that begins at 1:00 p.m.
