The 2012 fall sports season featured more than a dozen new school records, improved individual and team play, and several all-conference performers.
Football
The Prairie Fire football team’s offense clicked in 2012, setting several new records. Knox finished the season with a 2-8 record, an improvement over the 2011 season, and averaged nearly 10 more points per game. The Prairie Fire scored 311 points, topping the previous all-time mark of 295 by the 1919 team.

Men’s Soccer
Knox had its most successful men’s soccer season in more than a decade under first-year head coach Matt Edwards. A young and talented team that included 13 first-year and sophomore players on a roster of 20, the Prairie Fire finished the 2012 campaign with a record of 6-9-2, including a mark of 2-6-2 in Midwest Conference matches. The six victories are the most since the 1999 season.

Women’s Soccer
Several newcomers took the field for the women’s soccer team during the 2012 season, and the experience they gained will be a bonus when they come back next fall. The team finished the season with a 3-14 record that included back-to-back shutout wins against MacMurray College and Eureka College, as well as an 8-0 victory at home against Robert Morris University of Peoria. The win against MacMurray on the road secured for the Knox the traveling Ferris Trophy in the inaugural match for the hardware.

Cross Country
The Prairie Fire men’s and women’s cross country teams showed significant improvement in 2012 under the direction of coach Alex Moreno. Senior Sean Choate (Chicago, IL, Chicago Academy) and junior Gabe Moreno (Galesburg, IL, Galesburg) led the Prairie Fire men’s squad, battling throughout the season for the number one position on the team. Both earned All-Midwest Conference honors, with Choate placing fifth and Moreno tenth. Choate’s time ranks as the fourth-fastest in school history and Moreno owns the seventh-fastest time. Elizabeth Reyes (Oak Park, IL, Oak Park-River Forest) led the women’s squad throughout the season and finished her first year on the course with a school record-breaking performance at the Midwest Conference Championships.

Volleyball
The Prairie Fire volleyball team worked to implement a new culture during the 2012 season under new head coach Shayla Chalker, who cited improving on the fundamentals of the game, hard work, and a positive environment as the cornerstones of building a successful program. The team, with five returning players and five newcomers, finished with a 2-29 record in the first year of the rebuilding effort.

Women’s Tennis
The women’s tennis team won more matches and junior Charlotte Garvin (Omaha, NE, Central) reached the final four at the 2012 Midwest Conference Singles Championships. The Prairie Fire finished the fall and spring seasons with an overall record of 6-10 and a 2-3 mark in the Midwest Conference South Division. The six victories doubled the win total from the previous season.

Women’s Golf
The women’s golf team had two players – senior Mia Savard (Menifee, CA, Paloma Valley) and junior Sarah Martin (Crown Point, IN, Merrillville) -- finish in the top five on three occasions in tournaments during the 2012-13 season, with the team placing sixth in the team standings at the Midwest Conference Championship in October. Savard concluded the season with an average round score of 91.3, followed by Martin at 103.0, senior Monica Price (Rochester, IL, Rochester) at 106.1, and junior Lizzy Rodgers (Homewood, IL, Homewood-Flossmoor) at 116.7.
