The Prairie Fire women's soccer team will field a young, yet experienced group of players anticipating a solid 2013 season.
All 13 of the squad's players back this year saw action in 10 or more matches in 2012, and 10 logged at least 10 starts. Knox will rely on top returning scorer, junior Ella Petersen, for continued offensive production and senior Rachael Koene -- a three-year starting goalie -- to turn away opponents' shots on goal.
Third-year head coach Melissa Joseph's roster, which includes seven newcomers to the program, features 12 first-year or sophomore players. "This season we plan on improving our stats, leaving it all on the field, and competing with pride, passion, and commitment," Joseph said. "We have a strong group of returners and will also be looking for some first-years to contribute to our success."
The Prairie Fire's schedule includes the second year of a rivalry match with MacMurray College at Jorge Prats Field on September 18. The teams will play for the traveling Ferris Trophy, which Knox has after winning last year's contest.
