Galesburg, IL – The Prairie Fire women's soccer team started the new season strong with a 10-0 victory against Robert Morris University - Peoria on Sunday at Jorge Prats Field.

Knox (1-0-0) benefitted from four goals apiece by sophomore Madison Dana (Lafayette, CO, New Vista) and junior Ella Petersen (Wilmette, IL, Lake Forest Academy), who also had two assists and finished the match with 10 points.  The last Knox women's soccer player to notch at least four goals and 10 points in a contest was Megan Owens in 1999 against MacMurray College.  Owens set the school record with seven goals in the match.

Sunday's contest marked the first time in recent memory that two players on a Knox women's squad scored four goals in the same match.  The 10 goals by the Prairie Fire are the most since a 9-0 win against Lincoln Christian during the 2004 season.  The record for goals in a match is the 13 scored against Rockford in 1990.

Junior Delsey Ramirez (Highland Park, IL, Highland Park) scored the first and only goal the Prairie Fire needed at the 3:55 mark, assisted by junior Nadia Tapfumaneyi (Harare, Zimbabwe, SOS-Hermann Gmeiner).  Petersen found the back of the net about four minutes later to extend the Knox advantage to 2-0.

Dana gave the Prairie Fire a 3-0 lead 8:35 into the match, and then added two more scores in a 14:00 stretch – both assisted by first-year Margo Stanger (Madison, WI, Madison West) -- for her first career hat trick.  Petersen's second goal at the 42:16 mark put the Prairie Fire on top 6-0.

Dana tallied her fourth goal in the 67th minute, assisted by sophomore Sam Watkins (Des Moines, IA, Roosevelt).  Petersen continued the offensive surge with her third (79:29) and fourth (88:23) goals of the contest.

Watkins finished off the scoring for Knox with the first goal of her career, assisted by Petersen, 36 seconds before time expired.

Knox got off a whopping 64 shots, including 26 on goal, while holding the Eagles without a shot in the match.

Senior goalie Rachael Koene (Golden Valley, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's) and first-year Theresa Birzer (Fort Dodge, IA, Fort Dodge) teamed up for the shutout.  Koene played the first half in goal and Birzer took over in the second half.

The Prairie Fire resume play on September 6 against Finlandia University (11:00 a.m.) at the Northland Invitational in Ashland, Wisconsin.  Knox takes on host Northland on September 7 at 3:00 p.m.
