Koene's goal the difference for the Prairie Fire

Rockford, IL – The Prairie Fire shook off their first loss of the season with a 2-1 win at Rockford University on Tuesday.

The victory wasn't easy against a Regents squad that had been outscored 16-0 by Beloit College and Monmouth College in their first two matches.

Knox (3-1) held on after senior Rachael Koene (Golden Valley, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's), who has started all four contests in goal, played the field after intermission and scored the winning goal at the 85:39 mark – snapping a 1-1 tie.

Junior Delsey Ramirez (Highland Park, IL, Highland Park) gave the Prairie Fire a 1-0 lead 19:46 into the contest.

Rockford (0-3) forced a 1-1 tie 3:30 later, and the teams remained deadlocked at the intermission.

First-year Theresa Birzer (Fort Dodge, IA, Fort Dodge) played the second half in goal for Knox.  She had one save and was credited with the win.

The Prairie Fire outshot the Regents 20-2 overall, and 9-2 on goal.

Knox got back in the win column after falling 3-0 at Northland College on September 7 in a battle of two teams that entered the match with 2-0 records.

The Prairie Fire welcomes Westminster College to Jorge Prats Field on September 13.  The start time is scheduled at 4:00 p.m.  The Blue Jays (1-2-1) lost their last match 3-0 at Illinois College on September 8.
