Galesburg, IL – A late rally by the Prairie Fire came up short as Westminster College held on for a 2-1 non-conference win on Friday at Jorge Prats Field.

Knox (3-2-0) trimmed a two-goal deficit in half when junior Nadia Tapfumaneyi (Harare, Zimbabwe, SOS-Hermann Gmeiner) sent a shot past the Blue Jays' goal keeper at the 86:11 mark, her first goal of the season.  Junior Ella Petersen (Wilmette, IL, Lake Forest Academy) tallied her fourth of 2013 assist on the score by Tapfumaneyi.

LaTayisah Ousley of Westminster (2-2-1) was a thorn in the side of the Prairie Fire.  She gave the visitors a 1-0 lead 14:16 into the contest.  Knox was unable to answer with a score over the first 45:00 and the Blue Jays maintained the one goal advantage at the break.

Ousley made it a 2-0 advantage for Westminster on a breakaway goal at the 56:25 mark.

The Blue Jays took 21 total shots to Knox's seven, including a 12-4 edge in shots on goal.

Senior Rachael Koene (Golden Valley, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's) had seven saves in goal in 74:00 before taking the field in an offensive role for the Prairie Fire.  First-year Theresa Birzer (Fort Dodge, IA, Fort Dodge) replaced Koene and recorded three saves in her 26:00 minding the net.

Knox has a short turnaround with another home match on Saturday against Iowa Wesleyan College.  The Tigers will be playing their first match of the season after their first two were cancelled.

The scheduled start time is 3:00 p.m. following the Prairie Fire men's match against Iowa Wesleyan at 1:00 p.m.
