Galesburg, Ill.  – An outfielder for the Prairie Fire has garnered national recognition following a huge offensive weekend.

Senior Erik Smoy (Hoffman Estates, IL, Hoffman Estates) is among 13 players from colleges across the country named to D3baseball.com's Team of the Week.

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll that recognizes the top performers at each of the nine positions from the previous week.

Smoy helped lead Knox to doubleheader sweeps at Blodgett Field against Robert Morris-Springfield and Beloit College last weekend.  He was 11-for-19 at the plate (.579) in the four games with one home run and 14 RBIs while scoring six runs and stealing six bases in six attempts.

Smoy went 4-for-4, drove in six runs, and stole three bases in a 19-2 win by Knox over Robert Morris in the second game between the teams on Saturday.  He had another four-hit game with three RBIs and two steals as the Prairie Fire outslugged Beloit 15-9 in game two of their twinbill on Sunday.

A three-time All-Midwest Conference pick, Smoy is hitting .358 with 23 RBIs and seven stolen bases in seven attempts through 13 games – the last five of them wins, for the 9-4 Prairie Fire.

The honor from D3baseball.com is the second this week for Smoy, who was named the Midwest Conference Baseball Performer of the Week on Monday.
