CHARLESTON, Illinois—The Prairie Fire track and field teams competed at the Eastern Illinois Twilight Meet over the weekend.
Val Varanese and Kayla Brown finished eighth and ninth in the women's 100 meter dash, respectively. Varanese ran a 12.54 in the prelims, yet another top-10 Knox performance for her.
Brown finished in ninth place in the women's 200 meter dash with a time of 28.51.
Brown and Saundra Gavazzi placed eighth and ninth in the women's 400 meter dash with times of 1:06.50 and 1:07.87, respectively.
Grace Neubauer (2:45.90) and Marisa Miller (2:55.23) took eighth and ninth place in the women's 800 meter run, respectively.
Taliah Ellis placed sixth in the women's shot put with a throw of 32' 9". Alice Lee took seventh place with a throw of 32' 2.25"

Jessica Fritts' throw of 129' 1" was good enough for eighth place in the women's hammer throw. It was the third best throw all-time at Knox.
Gavazzi took sixth place in the women's javelin throw, heaving it 102' 4". She grabbed the number seven spot on the Knox individual list

Njoh Malafa placed seventh in the men's 200 meter dash with a time of :22.12, tying for seventh on the Knox all-time list and moving him into fourth on the individual list. He also took third place in the men's 400 meter dash with a time of 51.87. Malik Hamilton (:51.94), Donnye Sommerville (:52.42), and Jeremy Rainey-Brown (:52.83) finished in fourth, fifth, and sixth in the 400 meter dash, respectively.
Zachary Barnes placed seventh in the men's 800 meter run with a time of 1:59.72. Ben Hosto took ninth place with a time of 2:11.95.
Joseph Gilmore finished ninth in the men's 1500 meter run with a time of 4:35.23.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Malafa, Hamilton, Shadrack Ofori-Boadi, and Martwain Holmes finished in fourth place with a time of 43.15, putting them in second place all-time at Knox.
Brennan McGlauchlen placed sixth in the men's shot put, fourth in the discus throw, and fourth in hammer throw, and third in the javelin throw. His hammer throw of 148' 3" was the fourth best throw in Knox history.
Knox will compete in the Midwest Conference Championship on May 13 and 14.
