Jackson Qualifies for 60m at NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee announced today the participants in the 2022 NCAA Men's and Women's Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. The top 20 declared student-athletes in each of the men's individual events were accepted into the competition.

Derrick Jackson has qualified for the men's 60m dash at the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships.

"Breaking records and being a conference champion is an amazing accomplishment, but competing for a national championship is forever a blessing," said Jackson. "No matter how many times I go, it's a blessing just to make it. But now it's time we bring the championship home."

Jackson is ranked 20th in the nation with a qualifying time of 6.85. Jackson set the Midwest Conference (MWC) Indoor Track and Field Championships record in the 60m (6.86) in the preliminaries on February 25. He went on to pick up a pair conference championships in the 60m (6.90) and 200m (22.40) in the finals on February 26.

"This will be Derrick's first time racing in the Indoor Championships because the 2020 meet was canceled," said head coach Evander Wells. "This is the fastest 60m field in meet history with just 5/100ths of a second separating Derrick from the seventh best mark this season."

The 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held on March 11 and 12 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Complete List of Participants

The 2022 Indoor meet will be Jackson's third consecutive NCAA meet. Jackson previously attended the 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships where he placed fifth in the 100m (10.61) and sixth in the 200m (21.47) to earn All-America status in both events. The 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships and 2020 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships were not held due to Covid-19. Jackson also was set to attend the 2020 NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships before they were canceled due to Covid-19. He also earned All-America status in the 60m after the cancellation.

"This year was one of the toughest to qualify for so it's exciting to have Derrick in the meet," added Wells. "This will be a very competitive race, but I know he's up for the challenge. We had others just miss out. Kendall Ballman was just 1cm shy of the last qualifying mark in the long jump and Charles Broomfield finished the season ranked 27th in the weight throw. When they've had their best season, both setting Knox records, you can't ask for more."
