Regarded as one of the best all-around athletes in Knox’s history, Alice Smith was the top woman swimmer and a strong competitor in tennis, hockey, baseball, basketball, and rowing. She was Head Librarian at the Des Plaines library for 17 years and served as Vice President of the Illinois Library Association. Mr. and Mrs. Smith also have endowed the Elizabeth B. Smith Prize, awarded annually to an outstanding senior physics major at Knox.
