Chuck graduated from Galesburg High School in 1944, where he was an outstanding athlete for the Silver Streaks. After graduation, Chuck served in the United States Army during WWII and then came to Knox, where he earned his B.A. in 1950. At Knox, Chuck became part of a Midwest Conference Championship basketball team.

A four-year letter winner for the men’s basketball team, Chuck was a freshman on the 1946-47 team that tied for the conference crown. He led the 1947-48 team in scoring with 187 total points. Chuck was a team captain in 1949-50 and scored 122 total points, averaging 7.6 points per contest. Throughout this time, Chuck started every game but one. He was also a member of the Athletic Board of Control in 1948-49.

Chuck worked as a programmer and systems analyst at Gale Products before returning to Knox as the Director of Data Processing, until his retirement in 1990. His pace has only quickened during his retirement years. The time he gives to volunteer service is exemplary. Chuck and his wife Mary are probably best known as Galesburg boosters and volunteers for their long service to the Galesburg Community Chorus. In keeping with his interest in athletics, he was a founder and original board member of both the Galesburg Pioneers baseball team and Galesburg Little League. Chuck was enshrined in the Galesburg Silver Streaks Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004 for his prowess on the basketball and baseball fields in his youth.

In nominating Chuck, John Heyer said, “Chuck is a tireless volunteer who gives his time, talent and financial support to Knox College and the Galesburg community. His performance on the court as a student athlete and his willingness to give back to his college and community certainly reflect honor on Knox College.”
