Bridgman, a standout athlete in both track and wrestling form the Siwash was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army when he was killed in action in Vietnam on April 1, 1970. He received posthumous medals including the Purple Heart, the Air Medal and the Silver Star for gallantry in action. He is memorialized at Knox by the Bridgman Memorial Scholarship, established by his family, and the Bridgman Trophy, an athletic award established by the members of his fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon.
