Dan was a member of the Board of Athletic Control and a member of the “K” council. He was active in intramurals, a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and was involved in various theatre groups.

Dan left Knox to serve as an officer in the United states Army 1st infantry Division, 26th regiment.  He was seriously wounded in the African Campaign, losing one leg and injuring  the other.  He was decorated with the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star, two of the highest awards given to a member of the armed services.

Following his service in the army, Dan entered the Kent College of Law in Chicago where he received his Juris Doctorate. He practiced law in Chicago until he came to Galesburg in 1951. In 1958  Dan was elected county Judge of Knox County, a position he held for six years before becoming Associate Judge for the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court of Illinois. He served as Chief Justice until he retired.

Not only did he serve his country, but also his community.  Named Citizen of the Year in 1965 he was active in several organizations in Galesburg. He was a member of the Lincoln-Douglas Kiwanis Club, earned a Resolution of Appreciation from the Illinois  Youth Commission.

Dan is survived by his wife Ginny, two children Daniel and Carley, and four grandchildren
