Without question, this 1985 graduate is the finest golfer to represent Knox College since 1960 and one of the best in Knox golf history.  During his career at Knox, David Gardner led his teams to four consecutive Southern Division and Midwest Conference Championships.  This success came at a time when Knox had not won a Conference title for over twelve years and represented the start of an era  in which Knox has dominated the league.

While David has often said that leading his teammates to four consecutive Conference titles was what he took most pride in, his individual honors at the Conference meet his sophomore year, David was invited to the NCAA Tournament, where he placed 45th in the nation.  After placing first in the Conference meet his junior year, David took seventh in the NCAA National meet and was named Second-Team All-American.  Despite a broken arm late in the basketball season, which kept him from practicing golf until two days prior to the first meet, David finished his final season on the Knox golf team with his third consecutive first place conference and NCAA National finish and was also named an Honorable Mention All-American.

During his four years on the Knox golf team, David compiled a career stroke average of 75.9 and broke 70 five times.  The best golfer in the Conference for four years,  David was named Team captain his senior year and was chosen Most Valuable golfer by his teammates every year during his career at Knox.  While at Knox, David also lettered in basketball all four years, and started at the post position his senior year.  During his final year on the Knox basketball team, David was also one of the Midwest Conference’s top leading scorers, averaging 13.3 points per game.

Since graduating from Knox College, David has stayed connected with the game he loves.  He is currently working for Ram Golf Corporation in Altemonte, Florida, and is now in the process of meeting the requirements to become a club professional.

David had accomplished more at the national level than any other Knox athlete in any sport in recent history.
