Dave Woodward, born in Fairbury, Illinois, graduated from Knox College in 1977, following an outstanding basketball career at Galesburg High School. Throughout his athletic career at Knox, Dave succeeded in accomplishing much in a game to which he has continued to contribute time and energy—the game of basketball.
While competing at Knox, Dave Woodward lettered all four years. The last three of these he was elected most valuable player. In addition, he was selected to the All-Midwest Conference basketball team his junior and senior years and the All-State team for those two years as well. During his senior year, Dave received the Hilding Award given to the senior athlete whose career in varsity sports is most outstanding. The award is chosen by all coaches and team captains.
In the four years Dave played, he left a definite mark upon not only coaches, fans, and fellow players, but in the record books as well. While at Knox, he broke various records, many of which (actually most) still stand today, including most career points, highest season point total, most points per game average, most career and season rebounds, and most field goals in a single game.
After graduating from Knox, he entered the field of teaching where Dave continued to remain active in the game of basketball, coaching girl’s varsity basketball and fifth and sixth grade basketball in the Odell Public School District. He later left Odell, but continued to coach athletic teams within the Illinois public school system for several years. Today he lives in Pontiac, Illinois, where he is the customer service manager for W.A. Krueger Printing Company. He lives there with his wife Carol and his children Jeremy and Emily.
