Dean Trevor had been affiliated with Knox college for 46 years as a student, athlete and faculty member, his undergraduate athletic career consisted of the following accomplishments: 
  1.  4 Letters in football- captain of the team- all- conference team twice.
  2. 3 letters in basketball
  3. As a junior he was the Hunter Trophy winner.
Following graduation in 1926 Dean became a member of the Knox College faculty and served as assistant football coach and basketball mentor.

In his tenure at Knox as physical education director, coach,and athletic director, Dean achieved outstanding results, evidence by these facts:

  • 1)   Dean instructed, coached teams (football, basketball, tennis, golf and track)  and administered both intramural and intercollegiate athletic departments.

  • 2)   In  the fall of 1932 he was named Athletic Director, a post he held until his retirement in June of 1969.

  • 3)   In 1945 he served as executive secretary of the Knox campaign committee to raise some 750,000 for a new gymnasium.  It was in the spring of 1951 that the Memorial Gymnasium became a reality.  At the same time the beautiful Frank M. Lay Natorium also became a realization.

  • 4)   He served as Secretary of the Midwest Conference in 1949.
  • He coached the Knox College golf team to 6 straight conference championships in 1950’s

  • 5)   In 1964 he was elected vice-president-at-large of the NCAA Council when Division III, representing some 360 colleges, was originated.
Dean received several award during his tenure as a faculty member.  He was the recipient of the Knox college Alumni Achievement Award, as well as the sport Magazine Service Award. 

Because he devoted his whole life in serving the needs of Knox College, Dean was honored with the athletic facility being named the Trevor Field.

Dean passed away August 30, 1972.  He is survived by one son, Leigh B. Trevor, who lives in Cleveland, Ohio.
