Jun Adachi '81 made an immediate impact for the Knox College men's soccer team the moment he stepped on campus. He started all four years for teams that went 15-1 in Midwest Conference South Division play. Jun came to Knox in the fall of 1977 from Japan as a Grew Bancroft scholarship recipient.
Jun was a four-time all-Midwest Conference selection thanks to his strong play in the midfield. He scored six career goals and added 17 assists. As a senior, Jun was a co-captain and Team MVP as well as winning the John W. Hilding Prize from the athletic department. The Hilding Prize is awarded by the athletics staff to the senior student-athlete on a men's team with the most outstanding career in intercollegiate athletics.
Jun brought an intensity and leadership to the Knox College men's soccer team, despite having little knowledge of the English Language or the culture of the United States upon his arrival at Knox.
As a 20-year member of the Grew Bancroft Foundation, and the president of the USA arm of the foundation, Jun is still very active in the recruitment of student-athletes to Knox from his home country of Japan. Adachi has interviewed and mentored dozens of students, among them, the 15 Japanese students on campus for the 2020-2021 school year. Jun is also the president of Adachi Associates, and a former business development manager at Sanyo Electric.
I am honored to welcome Jun Adachi into the Knox-Lombard Athletic Hall of Fame, Class of 2021.
