Kathy Hansen was awarded eleven varsity letters throughout the course of her outstanding intercollegiate athletic career at Knox College.  As a student, she achieved remarkable academic success and was always a trusted friend of her coaches and teammates.

Athletic Director Harley Knosher says of her:

"All of the teams on which Kathy competed were fortunate to have a member who coupled unusual athletic excellence with a personality that made her an ideal member of each squad.  A major part of the reason for her teams successes were the result of her quiet, unassuming approach to being a great player."

Kathy played four seasons of volleyball and basketball, and was on the track team for three years.  Knox coach Kathy Wagoner has described her as an athlete "blessed with quickness, agility, strength and endurance which allowed her to excel at so many different sports."  As a volleyball player, arguably her best sport, she consistently lead her team in "kills."  Coach Wagoner summed up her volleyball career by saying, "Kathy has simply been our leading blocker and attacker for 4 years."

On the basketball floor, Kathy was regularly a high scorer from both the field and the charity stripe.  She scored 29 points one evening against Cornell and ended her career as the third all-time leading women's scorer in Knox history with 868 points.  During the 1990-91 season, she shot 77% from the free throw line and during that same year scored 327 points.  During track season, she was one of the team's best jumpers, primarily in the high jump and the long jump.

She was the recipient of nearly every major athletic award and prize given to female athletes.  Before she graduated, she was the winner of the Arvid P. Zetterberg Prize, the K-Club Award, and the Evelyn Bielefeldt award.

Kathy received her Masters degree from Washington University (St. Louis) in 1995.  She currently lives in St. Louis where she works as Director of Social Services for Nazareth Living Center.
