Kevin Megli was an all-conference and all-region running back who graduated in 2007 as the Knox football program’s all-time leader in career rushing yards.  Kevin led the team in rushing all four years between 2003 and 2006, and his name is present in virtually every single rushing category in the Knox football record book.

Kevin owns 25 all-time top 10 rushing marks, including 11 that rank in the top five.  He broke two school records that stood for 31 years when he finished his senior season in 2006 with career totals of 3,177 rushing yards and 660 attempts.  Kevin currently ranks second in those two categories, along with his 13.6 yards per carry average in the 2006 season-opener against Eureka College, 25 career rushing touchdowns – a record he shared until 2013, and a game he topped 200 yards on the ground in 2005.

Kevin was named an All-Midwest Conference honorable mention selection as a sophomore in 2004 after gaining 940 yards and scoring five touchdowns.  He followed with 931 yards and seven touchdowns in 2005, and was named second team All-Midwest Conference.  Kevin rushed for 1,019 yards and 12 touchdowns his senior season for the nation’s #6 ranked rushing attack, earning him first team All-Midwest Conference accolades and a spot on the Don Hansen Football Gazette NCAA Division III All-West Region honorable mention team.  Kevin averaged a remarkable 5.99 yards per carry in 2006, which still ranks sixth in Knox football history.

Bill Allison, an assistant football coach at Knox for nearly two decades who has coached the running backs for most of that tenure, said “While there have been many outstanding backs during that time, Kevin Megli stands out as one of, if not the best.  Until this past season (2013), Kevin was the career rushing leader at Knox, and as I think back on his career, I see more than just numbers.  Kevin had a remarkable career statistically.  Even more remarkable was the fact that he accomplished what he did under three offensive systems and at times with three backs in the formation at one time.  Kevin’s versatility and coachability allowed him to achieve record numbers regardless of the system he played in.”

Additional highlights of Kevin’s career include a game he scored four rushing touchdowns in 2005 and two more games he ran for three touchdowns, both of them in 2006.  He rushed for over 100 yards 11 times – which ranks third all-time – and he just missed adding to that total with games of 99, 99, 97, and 96 yards rushing.  He’s also third all-time in consecutive games with a rushing touchdown (5), and fourth in career touchdowns (27), touchdowns scored in a game (4), rushing touchdowns in a season (12), rushing attempts in a season (229), and all-purpose yards in a career (3,370).

Kevin was twice named the winner of the Tom Dean Award, and he was the 2007 recipient of the Dean S. Trevor Award.
