In the 100 year history of Knox College basketball, Kjeld Sorensen stands out as one of the school's most dominating inside players.  His statistical records are particularly remarkable because freshmen were ineligible to play when he was in school.  Kjeld currently ranks 6th in career total points (1,120), he is 3rd in career rebounds (637), and during the 1972-73 season, he led Knox in scoring with 22 points per game.

As a sophomore, Kjeld was selected first team All-Midwest Conference.  He was the MVP of his team each year that he played.  Kjeld was co-captain his senior year with teammate Gary Pokorn on Knox's co-Midwest Conference Championship squad; that same team went on to play in the Division III NCAA National Tournament.  After his last season at Knox, Kjeld was the recipient of the team's first Defensive Player of the Year award.  In 1975, he was a member of the Illinois College All-Star team that played the University All-Stars.

As an undergraduate, Kjeld was very active in his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta.  In 1973 he was a first team selection on the National All-Phi Delt team, and in 1974 he was named one of the top 10 Phi Delt players in the nation.

His coach, Harley Knosher, says of him: "From the time Kjeld arrived at Knox, it was clear that he was determined to do whatever was necessary to be part of a championship team.  The fact that this goal was attained in his senior season is a tribute to not only his ability and superior caliber of play, but also to the significant impact he had on his team as a leader."

After leaving Knox, Kjeld graduated from the Kent College School of Law.  He and his wife, Patty, also a Knox alum, currently live in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  Kjeld is an attorney for Watson Wyatt Worldwide in Washington, D.C.
