Knox College Athletics

Ted Wright received his BA from Knox in 1972, earned his MA from the University of Arkansas in 1974, and was awarded his MD from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1981.  He is currently a physician and surgeon at the Family Practice and Industrial Medical Clinic in Chicago.
        
Ted earned three letters in cross country at Knox.  In 1971 he was the winner of the Cleave Bridgman Award, one of the Athletic Department's most prestigious awards, given annually to a Knox athlete that is an outstanding performer in individual sports.

The sport that Ted excelled in at Knox, however, was swimming.  He was, perhaps, the most outstanding diver in the history of our school's diving program.  He was a three-time letterwinner in swimming and was the captain of the swimming team his senior year.  In his junior year he set the Knox record of 277.3 points in six dives and qualified for the NCAA national competition that season.  Ted also established records in Midwest Conference Diving Championships, including 249.6 points in seven dives his senior year and for the second consecutive year was conference diving champion, again qualifying for the nationals.  His leadership and sportsmanship were particularly admired by both his coaches and teammates.  At the conclusion of his final season he was chosen as a member of Outstanding College Athletes in America.
           
Ted was equally involved with various campus organizations and extra-curricular activities.  He was an outstanding student and a member of the Pep Band, a club he organized and directed for four years.  He was an active member of his fraternity, Alpha Delta Epsilon and participated in IM track for four years.  During his sophomore year he was also involved with the synchronized swimming team.
