Tremier Johnson was a three-time All-Midwest Conference selection for the men’s basketball team at Knox. He graduated in 1991 after a fantastic career on the hardwood.

Tremier was a program-changing force in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, leading the men’s basketball team to their best four-year period in school history. He finished his career as the school record holder with a .594 field goal percentage. He is also second on the all-time list with 806 career rebounds and sixth in scoring (1,266 points).

His teammates remember his as a smart, hard-working, selfless player. He was a rebounding machine, finishing among the top-three rebounders in conference three straight years. He was a team captain during his junior and senior seasons and two-time team Most Valuable Player.

Teammate David Anderson ’89 believes Tremier is the quintessential Knox student-athlete. “His decision to come to Knox and his attitude to embrace every inch of the experience was the epitome of a model Knox student-athlete. He was a game-changer for the program. He knew everyone on campus. He designed his own major. He is one of the athletes that did everything we ask of student-athletes: learn, enjoy, and perform. He did all three with great enthusiasm.”

His presence was felt beyond the court, as he also showed a great affinity for the classroom. Professor Emerita Penny Gold was very impressed with Tremier. “I had him in a number of classes, and was impressed with his deep and persistent intellectual interests. I worked with him in the formulation of his independent major in Human Relations and supervised his senior research project. It was a pleasure to have him in class, and to engage in conversation with him outside as well as inside the classroom. His choice of major was driven by a strong commitment to have a positive impact on the lives of others, and the work he has been doing since graduation is carrying through on that commitment.

Tremier went on to get his Master’s in Employment and Labor Relations at the University of Illinois and has had a successful career in Human Resources. He is now an HR consultant working with Lacuna Partners in Southern California.

I am honored to welcome Tremier Johnson into the Knox-Lombard Hall of Fame.
