First-Year Swimmer Recipient of MWC Award

Galesburg, Ill. – A Knox women's swimmer has been named the winner of a weekly award from the Midwest Conference.

First-year Madeline Bruce (Dunlap, IL, Dunlap) placed first in three individual events against swimmers from Monmouth College and Eureka College on January 18 at Monmouth.  The Prairie Fire earned a split at the meet by outscoring Eureka 147-31 and coming up short against Monmouth, 145-55.

Bruce is the latest Midwest Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week for her efforts.

She won the 100 yard freestyle, 100 yard backstroke, and 100 yard butterfly races in the three-team meet at Monmouth College. 

Bruce has finished first in 13 individual events so far this season and owns top 10 times in the Midwest Conference in six events.  She has the fastest time in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.99), which also set a new school record.

Bruce, who has helped the Prairie Fire achieve a 7-1 record in head-to-head team competition, is a two-time winner of the Midwest Conference performer of the week award this season.  She also received the honor on November 5.
