Carlson, a senior co-captain for the Prairie Fire, had an outstanding two-day stretch December 29-30 at the 2011 Purple and Gold Tournament in Defiance, Ohio.

Carlson, the latest Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award winner, averaged 24 points and six assists in Ohio.  He was named to the Purple and Gold All-Tournament Team after shooting a red hot 72 percent from the field (18-of-25), 6-of-7 from behind the 3-point arc, and 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

The Fire’s floor general, Carlson scored a career-high 31 points on 11-of-16 shooting, including five baskets from 3-point range, on December 30 against Trine University.  He also knocked down all four of his free throw attempts and added six assists against the Thunder.

Carlson had a strong opening game of the tournament as well on December 29 against host Defiance College.  He made 7-of-9 shots, one of them a 3-pointer, and went 2-for-2 from the foul line for a 17-point effort.  In addition, Carlson dished out six assists and grabbed four rebounds against the Yellow Jackets.

Carlson, who is averaging team-highs of 13.4 points and 5.6 assists per game, has been rock solid since the Prairie Fire’s 71-68 Midwest Conference win on December 13 at Lawrence University.  He scored 21 points to go along with five assists and four rebounds to help Knox stop an 11-game slide against the Vikings.

Over his last five games, Carlson is averaging 19 points and nearly five assists per contest while shooting 58.6 percent (34-of-58) overall, 50 percent (6-of-12) from 3-point range, and 87.5 percent (21-of-24) from the foul stripe.

Carlson leads the Midwest Conference in total assists (56).  He’s tied for second in assists per game, ranks 4th in free throws made (36), 13th in free throw percentage (80 percent), tied for 5th in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.0), 11th in scoring, and 11th in 3-point percentage (42.1 percent).
