Williams, the top scorer and rebounder for the resurgent women’s basketball team, has been named the recipient of the Prairie Fire Performer of the Week Award for the second straight week.
Williams received the honor after helping Knox win a pair of home games last Friday and Saturday against Lawrence University and Beloit College. The Prairie Fire also set three new women’s basketball records in the victory over the Buccaneers: most points scored in a game, most free throws made in a game, and most free throws attempted in a game.
Williams posted her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds as Knox downed Lawrence 98-80 on January 20 to earn a season split with the Vikings. She followed with 16 points and nine rebounds in a 114-100 triumph against Beloit on January 21, giving the Fire a season sweep of the Bucs.
Knox has won three of its last four games.
Williams averaged 17 points and 9.5 rebounds last weekend while shooting 52 percent from the field and 77 percent from the foul line. She’s scored in double-figures in five straight games, and during that stretch is averaging 14.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
Williams is averaging team-highs of 12.3 points and 7.9 rebounds this season. She’s shooting 49 percent from the field and 74.5 percent from the line – including 86 percent in the last five games – ranking her second on the team in both categories.
Williams ranks sixth in the Midwest Conference in scoring, fifth in rebounding and first in offensive rebounding (4.6 per game), and eighth in field goal percentage while playing an average of 16.3 minutes per game.
