A.J. Vazquez, a dual-sport athlete who also was a quarterback on the Prairie Fire football team, earned the award for his performance in the triple jump at the Jim Green Invitational hosted by Illinois College this past Saturday. The native of Whittier, California, wasted little time in setting a personal record in the triple jump, leaping 13.11 meters (43 feet 0.25 inches) on his very first jump. That effort not only earned him fifth place at the meet, but it also moved him up from sixth to fourth on Knox’s all-time performance list.
