Stephanie Nelson, a thrower from Newton, Kansas, finished fourth in both the hammer throw and the discus at the Midwest Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend. Her distance of 44.23 meters (145 feet 1 inch) in the hammer throw was nearly five feet further than her previous best, which set the program record. Later on the first day of competition, Nelson hurled the discus 36.96 meters (121 feet 3 inches), which combined with her hammer throw, provided 10 points to the Prairie Fire women’s team total. This is her fourth selection for this honor this academic year.
