Weaver batted .400 with 10 hits, including three doubles, and drove in eight runs in six games played between March 19 and 24 during the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.
Perhaps the biggest hit for Weaver was a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning that scored the winning run in a 10-9 Knox victory against Southern Vermont College on March 21.
Weaver has two hits in six of the seven games he’s played so far this season and he’s driven in at least one run in five games. Weaver leads the team with nine RBIs to go along with a .414 batting average, which is second among the regulars behind junior Jackson White (Grayslake, IL, Grayslake Central) – who is hitting a blistering .500 in seven games.
Weaver is getting hits when they matter the most. He’s batting .409 (9-for-22) with runners on base, .500 (6-for-12) with runners in scoring position, and .545 (6-for-11) with two outs. In addition, seven of his nine RBIs have come with two outs.
Weaver helped the Prairie Fire win three games in Florida, including an 8-7 triumph against Otterbein University (OH) on March 24 that snapped the Cardinals’ 12-game winning streak. Weaver was 2-for-5 with one RBI and a stolen base. He scored the seventh run of the game for Knox after leading off the bottom of the seventh inning with a single.
The Prairie Fire and Otterbein played each other on back-to-back days. The 12th win during OU’s streak was a 13-3 victory over Knox on March 23 that improved the Cardinals’ record to 13-1 on the season.
Weaver and his Knox baseball teammates host Beloit College in a doubleheader on March 30. The first game against the Buccaneers is at 1:00 p.m.
