Surprenant won title in the 184 pound bracket at the 2014 Northern Wrestling Alliance (NWA) Championships hosted by Milwaukee School of Engineering on February 15.

Surprenant, the bracket’s #2 seed, received a bye in the opening round.  He posted a 14-0 major decision over Jared Schaaf of Lakeland College in the semifinals to advance to the championship match.

Standing in the way of Surprenant and a conference championship was #1 seed Austin Bellile of MSOE.  A familiar foe, Bellile defeated Suprenant in three close decisions during the regular season.

The fourth time was the charm as Surprenant pinned Bellile at the 4:33 mark of the match to win the conference title.
