Box Score

Galesburg, IL -
The Prairie Fire had several chances to score, but Rockford College stopped those attempts and came away with a 3-0 non-conference win September 11 at Jorge Prats Field.

Knox (1-4) suffered its third straight loss despite playing very competitive soccer against the Regents, who improved to 3-2 overall.

Rockford College outshot the Fire 12-9 in the first half and 20-17 overall.  The Regents had 13 shots on goal to Knox's 10.  RC goalie Mick Goulding earned the shutout by stopping all 10 Prairie Fire shots that were on line.

Rockford got on the board first when Phillip Paulsgrove scored the first of his two goals 30:15 in the match for a 1-0 lead.  Paulsgrove connected on a penalty kick at the 39:35 mark to give the Regents a 2-0 advantage after 45:00 of play.

Rockford, which was issued four yellow cards in the match, scored the final goal when Rowland Welch found the back of the net, unassisted, at 80:36.

Sophomore Maxwell Gatyas (Plymouth, WI, Plymouth High School) led the Prairie Fire with five shots, three of them on goal, followed by junior Donald Tchopya (San Francisco, CA, Galileo Academy of Science and Technology) with four total shots and three on goal.

Sophomore goalie Franz Huebner (Heredia, Costa Rica, Lincoln School) had 10 saves for Knox.

The Fire tries to snap its string of three straight losses September 22 at Jorge Prats Field in a non-conference match against Augustana College (5-2) at 4:00 p.m.  The task will be difficult as the Vikings handed #18 nationally ranked University of Dubuque (5-1) a 1-0 loss on September 18 in Rock Island, IL.

The Prairie Fire's scheduled match on September 18 at home against Benedictine University (IL) was postponed because of rain.  The match against the Eagles will be made up at a date to be determined.
