The Prairie Fire women's team had a top 25 finish and the men's squad placed a runner in the top 10 at Saturday's Forester Invitational in Libertyville, Illinois.
The Knox women's team finished ninth out of 14 teams. Northwestern University placed first and the University of Illinois - Chicago was second. The first eight runners to cross the finish line were from the two schools.
Prairie Fire senior Emma Swanson (West Des Moines, IA, Valley) ran her second fastest time of the season, 20:56, to place 25th overall.
The remaining top five finishers for Knox were sophomore Yael Cody (Highland Park, IL, Highland Park High School), senior Laura Mills (Brookville, MD, Sherwood), senior Brenna DeGan (Naperville, IL, Naperville North), and sophomore Carli Bogolub (Downers Grove, IL, Highland Park).
Cody ran the race in 22:49 for 62nd place overall out of 133 runners. Mills turned in a time of 23:14.6 for 71st, DeGan followed at 23:22 for 75th, and Bogolub ran a season-best 23:26 for 76th.
The other top five teams behind Northwestern and UIC were Edgewood College (third), Illinois Institute of Technology (fourth), and Beloit College (fifth).
Junior Sean Choate (Chicago, IL, Chicago Academy High) had another strong race for the Fire men's team. He finished 10th overall in a time of 28:26. Sophomore Gabe Moreno (Galesburg, IL, Galesburg High School) finished two places behind Choate in 28:30
Senior Kevin Box (Naperville, IL, Naperville North) placed 21st with his time of 28:51 and sophomore Tyler Buddell (Lake Bluff, IL, Lake Forest High School) was the fourth Knox runner to cross the finish line, doing so in 30:09 for 60th overall out of 116 participants.
The men's coaches agreed to omit the scores for the 8K race due to some mishaps.
The Prairie Fire cross country teams travel to Bloomington, Illinois on October 7 to take part in the Titan Invitational hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University.
