Northfield, MN – The Prairie Fire cross country teams performed well against strong competition on Saturday at the St. Olaf College Invitational.
First-year women’s runner Elizabeth Reyes (Oak Park, IL, Oak Park-River Forest) had another solid race for Knox. She finished in 25:39, the 18th fastest 6K time in school history. Reyes placed 109 individually out of 381 runners.
The Prairie Fire women finished 22nd in the team standings ahead of Bethany Lutheran College (MN) and Crown College (MN).
The Knox men’s squad was led by junior Gabe Moreno (Galesburg, IL, Galesburg), who placed 38th out of 295 runners in 27:13. His time is #23 on the Top 25 Individuals by Time List. Senior Sean Choate (Chicago, IL, Chicago Academy) finished 41st in 27:25, ranking him #24 on the same list as Moreno.
First-year runner Victor Schultz (Staunton, VA, Robert E. Lee) also was among the top 100 runners, placing 75th with his time of 28:15.
The Prairie Fire men finished 13th out of 21 teams. Knox placed ahead of schools that included Augsburg College, University of Dubuque, University of Wisconsin – Superior, Beloit College of the Midwest Conference, Clarke University, and three other colleges from Minnesota.
The Prairie Fire has less than a week before heading back out on the course. Knox runs at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana College on September 21.
The races will be run at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island. The women’s 6K is first at 5:00 p.m. followed by the men’s 8K at 5:45 p.m.
