Cross Country Teams Finish 3rd and 6th at Beloit

Four Prairie Fire runners place in the top 10

Beloit, WI – Four runners for the Prairie Fire finished in the top 10 on Saturday at the Beloit College Olde English Classic.

The strong showing by Knox was highlighted by junior Gabe Moreno (Galesburg, IL, Galesburg), who finished second overall in the men’s 8K race in a time of 26:52.  His placement and time are the best by a Knox men's runner in the five decades the event has been held.

Senior Sean Choate (Chicago, IL, Chicago Academy) also placed among the top five as he was fifth to cross the finish line in 27:33.  A third Prairie Fire men’s runner, senior Jacob Buddell (Lake Bluff, IL, Lake Forest), scored a top 10 placement by finishing eighth in a time of 28:38.

First-year Brian Cole (Warson Woods, MO, Webster Groves) had his best finish of the season.  He placed 23rd in 30:12. 

The men’s race had 107 participants.

The Prairie Fire men placed third (out of nine) in the team standings, ahead of Midwest Conference members Illinois College (fourth) and host Beloit College (fifth).

The Knox women’s team was led by first-year Elizabeth Reyes (Oak Park, IL, Oak Park-River Forest).  She finished 10th in the 5K race in a time of 21:17.  Also turning solid performances for the Prairie Fire was first-year Mickella Duffy-Webb (Colorado Springs, CO, William J. Palmer), who finished 24th in 22:11.   

First-year Melissa Silva (Zion, IL, Zion-Benton Township) ran the race in a time of 23:04 for 34th place and junior Carli Bogolub (Downers Grove, IL, Highland Park) finished 48th in 24:03.

The women’s race had 122 runners.

The Knox women placed sixth (out of eight) in the team standings ahead of Silver Lake College and Alverno College.

The Prairie Fire cross country teams are back on the course on October 6 at the Dan Huston Invitational hosted by Wartburg College.  The women’s race begins at 10:45 a.m. followed by the men’s race at 11:30 a.m.
