Men's Soccer Remains in First Place

DE PERE, Wisconsin - The Prairie Fire retained their first place standing in the Midwest Conference after a 2-2 tie at St. Norbert College.

Knox (9-1-3, 4-1-1 MWC) started the scoring in the 19th minute but with each Fire goal, the Knights had an answer.

"We knew St. Norbert was tough up top and had disciplined athleticism throughout the squad. Those qualities showed through on two occasions where they fought back from a deficit both times. I commend Derek's team for their performance today," said Fire Head Coach Tyler Sheikh about St. Norbert.

The first goal of the game came off the foot of Nathaniel Logie (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Queens Royal College) with a chip past the keeper assisted by Abdulsalam Oganla (Lagos, Nigeria, The International Academy). After an answer by St. Norbert, the score remained 1-1 until shortly after halftime.

In the 57th minute Logie scored his second goal of the game assisted by Phelipe Graske (Geneva, IL, Geneva) . The Knights soon answered to make the score 2-2.

The Fire played tremendous defense in both overtime frames, including goalkeeper Justin Dunn (Winnetka, IL, New Trier). Dunn had four saves on the day and kept 13 of St. Norbert's 15 shots out of the goal.

Sheikh added, "We were on the ascendency in the second half and through overtime. I am proud of the way we ended the contest. We feel a bit hard done by some decisions that left us with 10 men. But this squad has the depth to step up for next weekends double header."

The Fire will face off against Carroll University on October 17 in Waukesha, Wisconsin, looking to retain their first place standing.
