Men's Soccer Routs Cornell

GALESBURG, Illinois— The Prairie Fire were on the offensive the entire game as they blanked Cornell College 7-0 on Senior Day.

Knox (12-2-3, 7-2-1 MWC) finished second in the Midwest Conference after their rout of Cornell College.

The Prairie Fire started their scoring early with a goal by Abdulsalam Oganla (Lagos, Nigeria, The International Academy) in the 11th minute assisted by Joe Dyer (Kansas City, MO, Oak Park). Oganla had an impressive game with two goals and an assist, helping the Knox offense tremendously. James Barrington (Pontefract, England, St. Wilfrid's) added a goal in the 33rd minute assisted by Oganla. Terence Lau (Shanghai, China, Shanghai American School) netted a goal in the 55th minute with another assist by Dyer. Max Dorsey (Brookfield, IL, Riverside-Brookfield) and Jonny Banham (Malaga, Spain, Swans International Sierra Blanca) each added unnassisted goals off the bench in the 68th and 75th minute respectively. Dorsey's goal was the first of his 4-year career, his last chance at home. The final goal of the day was scored by Jefferson Aguirre (Plainfield, IL, Joliet Township), assisted by Rocky Plaza (Manila, Philippines, PAREF Southridge School).

Justin Dunn (Winnetka, IL, New Trier) saw an easy day in the net for the Prairie Fire, never facing a shot on goal and earning a shutout.

"In a must win game we showed up.  We got some great minutes from strikers and were able to rest others," said head coach Tyler Sheikh. "We believe we can challenge anyone in the country when full strength so getting the Conference Player of the Year back for the semifinals will be a nice boost."

Knox will face off against Carroll in the Midwest Conference tournament on Friday, November 6 at 1:30 p.m. The tournament will be hosted by St. Norbert.
