GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire scored three goals in the final eight minutes to put away Edgewood College 4-1 on Sunday at Jorge Prats Field.
The win was the third straight to start the season for Knox, and the closest score of the young season.
"We knew Edgewood would be a true test as they are a tough out for the NACC elite," said head coach Tyler Sheikh.
First-year
Joe Dyer (Kansas City, MO, Oak Park) put Knox on top with a goal at the 19:13 mark before the Eagles responded with a score of their own early in the second half. The contest was still deadlocked going into the final 10 minutes.
"For the second time in two days we went into halftime with the lead, but felt we could be playing better," Sheikh added. "I knew it was very disappointing to concede through a virtual own goal to start the second half, but the fellas stayed focused despite a lot of chances gone begging."
Seniors
Abdulsalam Oganla (Lagos, Nigeria, The International Academy) and
Nathaniel Logie (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Queens Royal College) were on the same page late in the second half as Oganla fed Logie twice within two minutes—81:39 and 83:17—to put the game away. Sophomore
Lucas Sanchez (Sao Paulo, Brazil, Pueri Domus) capped off the scoring with a goal in the final minute.
"In the end, four goals to the good was a just amount but we will need to increase our intensity and execution to continue our winning ways into next weekend," Sheikh concluded.
The Prairie Fire will look to remain undefeated in the fourth annual Ferris Trophy match with MacMurray College. The game will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Jorge Prats Field.
