GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire men's soccer team defeated Monmouth 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Knox (8-3, 3-0 MWC) struck early when
Nick Janulis (Arlington Heights, IL, Wheeling) found the back of the net in the sixth minute of play. He was assisted by
Austin Grzebieniak (North Barrington, IL, Barrington Community).
Lucas Sanchez (Sao Paulo, Brazil, Pueri Domus) added to the lead at the 14:54 mark and Grzebieniak again assisted on a score by
Charlie Raymond (Portland, OR, Central Catholic) in the 31
st minute.
"Always easy to get up for a Monmouth rivalry game. So, was happy with our energy from the start," said head coach Tyler Sheikh. "Kooten has his team set up in great shape and they always play hard so after a bright first half for us I thought Monmouth battled. In the end, we could have shown more control of play, but we did enough to create chances and stay on the front foot."
