GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire dropped a Midwest Conference four-game series to Monmouth over the weekend.
Knox (4-19, 0-8 MWC) and the Scots played scoreless ball into the seventh inning in the first game before Monmouth broke out for five runs in the seventh and eighth innings to win 5-1. The Prairie Fire led for most of game two, but a four-run ninth inning rally propelled the Scots to a 13-12 victory. Knox again led early in the third game but ended up losing 18-10. Game four was more of the same with Knox leading in the middle innings before losing 12-6 when Monmouth rallied in the late innings.
Drake Sykes led the Prairie Fire offense with ten hits in 15 at bats. He had two home-runs and six RBI while scoring nine runs. Ryan Weitendorf was 8-for-16 on the weekend with two home-runs and four RBI and three runs scored. Alex Bell went 7-for-20 with two home-runs and nine RBI. Tristyn Ruiz went 4-for-11 at the plate in the series. Dalton James tallied four hits in the series with a home-run and four runs scored. Matt McCaffrey added four hits and a home-run. Brandon Crose also had four hits on the weekend.
Knox will host Iowa Wesleyan on April 26 in a make-up game from earlier in the year.
