Softball Drops Conference Openers

The Prairie Fire dropped four games over the weekend to open up conference at Grinnell and Cornell.

Knox (0-16) scored first in game one against Grinnell, managing three runs in the top of the first inning. Grinnell answered with three of their own in the first and scored eight unanswered runs to close out the win. In game two, the Pioneers scored nine runs in the bottom of the first on the way to a 23-0 win.

Chelsey Howard (Galesburg, IL, Galesburg) finished 2-for-5 with two RBI against Grinnell. Kaly Davidson (Needham, MA, Needham) also had two hits in five at bats while Samantha Nordstedt (Skokie, IL, Niles North) drove in the other run.

The Prairie Fire and Cornell were scoreless through the first four innings of their first game before the Rams scored a run in the fifth. Cornell added four more in the sixth to earn the 5-0 win. In game two, Knox struck first with a run in the first inning. The Rams responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Knox answered with three runs in the second inning to take a 4-3 lead, but Cornell struck back with six runs in the bottom half. The Rams scored eight more in the fourth inning to close out the scoring.

Emily Stevenson (Tinley Park, IL, Andrew) finished 4-for-6 on the day to lead the Prairie Fire offense. Davidson drove in two runs, while Howard added an RBI.

Knox will travel to Jacksonville to take on Illinois College on April 6.
