GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire fell to MacMurray on Thursday afternoon at Blodgett Field.
Knox (2-10) struck first with a run in the first inning, but the Highlanders launched a two-out rally in the top of the second to take a 6-1 lead. MacMurray added two in the third, one in the fourth, and one in the fifth before the Prairie Fire were able to scratch another run across in the bottom of the fifth. Knox scored three in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 10-5, but the Highlanders came back with two of their own in the top of the seventh to finish the scoring.
Drake Sykes (Galesburg, IL, Galesburg) and
Ryan Weitendorf (New Lenox, IL, Lincoln-Way East) both finished with two hits in three at bats, while
Alex Bell (Elgin, IL, Burlington Central) went 2-for-5. Sykes, Bell,
Matt Mueller (Silex, MO, Silex), and
Theo Mills (Wilmington, IL, Wilmington) each had an RBI.
Knox will look to get back on track on April 9 when they host Lawrence starting at 11 a.m.
