Baseball Completes Series Sweep Against Illinois College

GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire completed a series sweep of Illinois College with two wins on Sunday afternoon.
 
Knox (12-22, 5-11 MWC) cruised to an 8-2 victory in game one before winning in walk-off fashion in a game two shootout.
 
Marty Salazar (Normal, IL, Normal Community) earned the win on the mound for the Prairie Fire in the first game, capping off a great career on his senior day. Alex Bell (Elgin, IL, Burlington Central) picked up the win in game two pitching out of a jam in the ninth inning to set up the exciting victory.
 
Matt McCaffrey (Wilmette, IL, New Trier) finished with five hits in eight at bats with three runs scored and an RBI. Drake Sykes (Galesburg, IL, Galesburg) tallied four hits in seven at bats with two home-runs, three doubles, four runs scored, and four RBI. Kam Wells (Champaign, IL, Champaign Central) went 5-for-9 with two RBI and two runs scored and Ryan Weitendorf (New Lenox, IL, Lincoln-Way East) finished 4-for-8 with a home-run and four RBI. Brandon Crose (Princeville, IL, Princeville) also went 4-for-8 with a run scored and two RBI. Billy Ballantine (Anchorage, AK, Tempe) finished 2-for-5 and Dalton James (Homer, IL, Heritage) picked up two hits in three at bats with three RBI. Matt Mueller (Silex, MO, Silex) went 2-for-4 with the game-winning hit in game two, a home-run, and three RBI.
 
The game ends the season for Knox and was also Coach Les Hunter's last game as pitching coach. A ceremony presenting a framed jersey was held before the start of game one.
