JACKSONVILLE, Illinois—The Prairie Fire men's soccer team won their third straight on Wednesday night with a 3-0 victory over Illinois College.
Knox (11-2-3, 6-0-0 MWC) waited until late in the first half to get on the board. James Barrington headed a ball off a corner from Pedro Moura for the score. The Prairie Fire took the 1-0 lead into halftime and again waited to find the net again. In the 80
th minute, Erick Karkut picked up his 4
th penalty kick goal of the season. Nick Janulis followed with a goal of his own just 23 seconds later for the final score. He was assisted by Rocky Plaza.
Knox outshot the Blueboys 19-8 overall, and 6-1 on goal, for the game.
"Last time we were here we were in a similar position in the conference, but let this game slip. Not today," said head coach Tyler Sheikh. "We knew IC would be well disciplined with tremendous field leadership and a real threat to hit us on the counter. In the end, we got a goal in the first half and took their punches in the second half. Our persistence paid off with two more goals and we were able to see a quality opponent off on away turf."
The Prairie Fire will host Cornell on October 21 in the final home game of the season.
