Men's Soccer Picks Up 11th Victory

JACKSONVILLE, Illinois—The Prairie Fire men's soccer team won their third straight on Wednesday night with a 3-0 victory over Illinois College.

Knox (11-2-3, 6-0-0 MWC) waited until late in the first half to get on the board. James Barrington headed a ball off a corner from Pedro Moura for the score. The Prairie Fire took the 1-0 lead into halftime and again waited to find the net again. In the 80th minute, Erick Karkut picked up his 4th penalty kick goal of the season. Nick Janulis followed with a goal of his own just 23 seconds later for the final score. He was assisted by Rocky Plaza.

Knox outshot the Blueboys 19-8 overall, and 6-1 on goal, for the game.

"Last time we were here we were in a similar position in the conference, but let this game slip. Not today," said head coach Tyler Sheikh. "We knew IC would be well disciplined with tremendous field leadership and a real threat to hit us on the counter. In the end, we got a goal in the first half and took their punches in the second half. Our persistence paid off with two more goals and we were able to see a quality opponent off on away turf."

The Prairie Fire will host Cornell on October 21 in the final home game of the season.
