LAKELAND, Florida—The Prairie Fire baseball team dropped a pair of games to Midwest Conference North Division foe St. Norbert on Thursday.
Knox (1-5) fell behind early in game one when the Green Knights pushed across two runs in the first inning. The Prairie Fire responded with a run of their own in the top of the second inning. St. Norbert expanded their lead with two more runs in the fourth and three in the sixth. Knox led off the seventh inning with a hit, but a double play erased it and killed the rally.
Matt McCaffrey, Dalton James, and Brady Sember each finished 2-for-3 to lead the Prairie Fire in game one. James and Andrew Recker picked up steals as well.
In game two, the Green Knights struck first again with an eight-run first inning. Knox held St. Norbert scoreless over the next three innings, but the Green Knights put up another crooked number in the fifth inning with five more runs. The Prairie Fire showed some fight in the bottom half of the fifth when Paul Sanders hit a three-run home-run in a four-run inning. St. Norbert added three more runs in the top of the seventh for good measure, while Knox pushed one more across in the bottom half.
Tristan Hannah finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and Adam Brown picked up a steal. Sanders banged his first homer of the season and finished with three RBI.
Knox will face off against Rutgers-Camden on March 16.
