Baseball Splits with University of Dubuque

GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire split a midweek doubleheader with Dubuque this afternoon at Blodgett Field.

Knox got on the board in game one in the bottom of the third inning on a Brendan Powers groundout. Dubuque answered back with a two-out, two-strike three run homerun in the top half of the fourth.

With Dubuque leading 4-2, the Knox offense came alive for four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Jack Barecca held off the Spartans in the top of the seventh to earn the win. Paul Sanders was 3-for-4, Juston Woodard 2-for-3, and Brendan Powers picked up two RBI in the win.

The Prairie Fire would get on the board first in game two, but would never lead again in a 5-2 loss. Although they were able to scratch another run in the bottom of the fifth on a Brady Sember single, that would be all they would get.

Tom Janczur was the losing pitcher of record. Andrew Ponce threw two innings without allowing an earned run. Paul Sanders roped a double and stole a base, and Brendan Powers picked up another RBI. Kobe Shutter threw out four would-be base stealers on the day. Knox will travel to Mauston, WI for the MWC Crossover this weekend, where they start by challenging Ripon College on Friday.
